A Crocheted Blanket

When I started crocheting I knew I wanted to make a blanket, and in the back of my mind I wanted to make one for my nephew who was expecting a little sister in August. I knew he might have a mixture of different feelings as his family brings home the new kiddo, so making something about him might help? I don’t know but I definitely wanted to make him a blanket regardless.

I don’t know how to take photos of blankets obviously

First thing I did was look at crocheted blankets online to see what I gravitated towards, and liked the color blocked blankets the best. The next step was to find a stitch I wanted to use and that one did take me a while to pick.

I wasn’t going to kid myself and pick the most complicated stitch as a beginner and give up half way through it, and eventually found the moss stitch. Super cute and supposedly flexible for a blanket to lay nicely, I watched a video from Ginger Knots who explained it so well. I did some test runs and messed up a few times that I had to frog the whole thing but I was learning! Eventually I got to a point where I was comfortable and not messing up as much that I went for it. It was nice not having to count and I could watch TV if I wanted. Most of the time I ended up listening to music or audio books. It was very relaxing.

I didn’t want a toddler blanket but I also didn’t want a super large blanket for my nephew who is one currently. I aimed for something bigger than a toddler blanket (42×52 inches) and finished at 45×69 inches.

It’s definitely longer than expected but gives my nephew more years with it hopefully. I know I didn’t do the best with weaving in ends or with tension but I’m still very proud of my first crocheted blanket.
