Feeling a bit out of my element here, not talking about plants today, but hey, let’s give it a shot! I started crocheting in April and instantly fell in love with it. However, deciding what to create was a struggle. I was overwhelmed by the countless possibilities and couldn’t make up my mind.
Eventually, I settled on making a blanket, which turned out to be a fantastic choice, haha! I opted for the odd moss stitch because it didn’t require much counting, allowing me to watch TV without worrying about making mistakes.
Though I must admit, I unraveled my work more times than I can remember because I forgot to skip a stitch and only noticed it on the next row.
After the third time unraveling, I stopped getting bothered by it. Fixing mistakes became a natural part of the crocheting process, and I accepted it without frustration. I had a stash of multicolored yarn from a family member, so my goal was to find matching blue and green shades for the rest of the blanket.
I visited a craft store and compared various blues and greens to the swatch I had.
Luckily, I quickly found the perfect green. I was thrilled and eager to use it right away. However, when I got home and saw it under normal lighting, the green appeared much brighter than it did in the swatch. It was a bit disappointing, but I decided to incorporate the cream yarn instead, and I’m pleased with how it’s turning out now.
I bought the blue yarn along with the first green one, and I’m glad it worked well on the first try. I didn’t want to make another trip to the store. This blanket is intended for my nephew when we visit our family in Michigan, and I can’t wait to surprise them with it. Currently, only my mom and husband know about the blanket and what it looks like.
I’m not worried about critics, but I want it to be a special moment for my sister and nephew.
I must say, I’m really glad I added crocheting to my list of hobbies in 2022. It brings me so much joy. While I’m still working on the basics, I can already envision myself making blankets all year round and perhaps even attempting wearable items if I gather enough courage. I have some ideas for creating themed coasters for my family, based on their favorite hobbies or animals.
One project that’s specifically for me is a queen-size blanket using chunky yarn. It would be absolutely amazing! Although, I might have to reconsider the size and make it a personal-sized blanket to keep the costs and weight down.
I have an abundance of ideas, and I can’t wait to tackle each one at my own pace. Crocheting has become a true passion of mine!
