The Dream Plant

In December, I made a wish list for 2023, and after much consideration, I decided to get the hoya serpens. However, I kept putting it off because I was afraid I would not be able to take care of it properly. I monitored the overnight temperatures in different states and waited until it was safe to order.
Eventually, in the first week of March, I took the plunge and purchased the serpens. It was a nerve-wracking experience, as I kept second-guessing myself and reading up on its care requirements.
After much contemplation, I was finally convinced to buy it after reading an article that said that while it may not be the easiest plant to care for, it is worth trying because it is so beautiful when it thrives.

It took over a week for the plant to ship, and I anxiously awaited its arrival. The tracking number gave me an ETA of my birthday weekend, which made it even more special.
When the plant finally arrived, I was so busy hanging out with family that I almost forgot about it. I was relieved to find that it had been delivered safely, and I was overjoyed to see how beautiful it was. However, I was also nervous about caring for it properly and not killing it. Despite my fears, I am thrilled to finally own this dream plant.

As soon as it arrived, I placed the Hoya serpens in my glass terrarium that previously housed my calathea rattlesnake. I refrained from watering it for a few days, and to my delight, it began to grow vines. The baby leaves that appeared were so small that I was worried they might wither away, but they have continued to thrive and grow bigger each day. For the time being, I plan to keep the plant in the terrarium until I feel confident enough to move it elsewhere or until it outgrows the space.

When the time comes, I intend to transfer the hoya serpens to a trellis, and I’m sure it will look absolutely magnificent. Currently, the terrarium is positioned next to my hoya carnosa, and the sight of the parents of hoya mathilde and hoya chouke growing side by side brings me great joy.

It’s been nearly a month now, and I still can’t believe that I own a hoya serpens. I feel incredibly fortunate to finally have one in my possession.
