Desert Botanical Garden 2023 Spring Plant Sale

I was thrilled to find out a few months ago that the Desert Botanical Garden hosts plant sales in the spring and fall. I purchased my tickets a month in advance and marked my calendar for March 16th. The day finally arrived, and I was eager to explore the breathtaking display of color and variety at the plant sale.

While the selection was definitely geared towards yard plants, I was impressed by the wide range of cacti available. I had my heart set on finding a golden rat tail, rat tail, or peanut cactus there – I wanted trailing cactus. Although I didn’t find these, I did see some gorgeous monkey tails priced at $45 each. If I had wanted to make my current monkey tails fuller, I would have gone for those, but I ultimately decided to pass.

I even spotted the boobie and penis cactus. While I was tempted to buy them just to have something from the sale, I ultimately decided not to because I didn’t absolutely love them.

Most of the cacti ranged from $20-100 for the gallon pots, and at different booths, the cacti were much smaller and ranged from $5-40. Although the prices were reasonable, I didn’t find what I was looking for, so I didn’t make any impulse buys. I was proud of myself for resisting the urge to buy the penis and boobie cacti.

Overall, it was a warm and sunny morning spent admiring the plants at the Desert Botanical Garden plant sale. While I’d love to go to the fall plant sale, I’m not sure if I’ll be in Arizona at that time. Regardless, I’m grateful that I was able to attend the spring sale and see the impressive collection of plants.
