Every time I read the title all I hear and see is that super old YouTube cartoon with the character who is a banana and has one line saying: “I am a banana” in a high pitched voice ahaha.
Done with that random thought, I really like chunky leaves, especially on dracaenas formally known as sansevieria. Most places still call them sansevieria on websites. Oh my word they are so adorable with their thick leaves and I adore the ehrenbergii banana.
I purchased one at the beginning of the year and it’s just down right cute. It’s not super chunky yet but I’m hoping with a west facing window in AZ it’ll double in size over the spring and summer.
It originates from Somalia and it gets it name from the fat, boat shaped leaves that are curved – like a banana! They will push out new leaves that lay on each other instead of alternating leaves like the samurai and other varieties.
So far it’s been a super easy plant but a slow grower. The pinguicula is almost done pushing out the first leaf in my care and there is already a second one emerging, but the banana is still working on the first one ahaha. I’m not complaining though, it’s an adorable little plant. I couldn’t be happier owning it.
I can see myself owning a ton of dracaenas as they’re very low key plants that just need bright, direct light and are very forgiving when under watered ahaha. They are such statement pieces I am surprised they’re not super popular! Guess it’s a plus for me ‘cause then the prices aren’t skyrocketing due to popularity.
