I completely destroyed my dracaena because I was too impatient to let it slowly acclimate to such extreme heat (and some of that intense sun). I’m awful!
I really felt bad about it too. I’ve had it close to a couple years now and it was doing great! Lovely colors and steadily growing, only to end up having a heat stroke and becoming a slightly tanned ghost.
I seriously thought it was dead because it stopped pushing out leaves from the top, and the color left the top leaves, but I didn’t have the heart to put it in the trash, so I left it outside by the front door for a couple of weeks. It looked so bad I event left sticky notes all over the nursery pot saying “NOT TRASH” just incase the maintenance folks thought they should take it.
Anyways, I eventually checked on it, and oh my word, it was branching. I assume (in my uneducated opinion) it died towards the top and now it began branching, like the top half was chopped off similar to a yucca would react I guess. That’s my take on it.
I’m just happy it’s not dead. I’m going to treat it nicely and the little man will stay in the apartment here on out. I looked at old photos and realized just how bleached it looks now compared to a couple months ago. Lesson learned sadly.
It’ll bounce back, majorly altered, in due time. Hopefully it doesn’t hold it against me ahahaha.
