I love cacti so much. Am I knowledgeable on them? Not in the least but they make my heart happy, ahaha.
I wasn’t planning on getting a lot of cacti but that went out the door after I bought my golden rat tails. Kind of bummed I spent money on a burro tail but it’s cute, and once it really starts to trail it should be fabulous.
The week after arriving in AZ, I went to a couple nurseries and was blown away at the large cacti they offered. Slightly bummed they didn’t have cacti in nursery pots ranging from 4-6 inches. They had wonderful 8 inches but that’s a big pot for a balcony, and what they did offer in smaller sizes were usually 2-4 inches with etiolated plants. I managed to find some adorable cacti though and brought them house promptly.
I didn’t immediately put them out in the balcony, but had them in some direct sun for a few hours in the living room before I threw them out into the Arizona west-facing sun.
I bought 2 IKEA railing planters and then later bought 4 railing planters similar to the IKEA ones but bigger and shorter, which I was hoping to just place my potted tails in it but the planter wasn’t big enough. Oh well. I wanted all my tails together but that didn’t work out but it’s good. I repotted them into smaller pots so they could fit accordingly.
In addition to the railing planters I already bought, I got a long boy plant box and I’ll be able to fit so many 2-4 inch plants in there that I’m so excited, ahaha.
I want to go out shopping every day but I have to rein myself in. It’s hard. I have been reading about clumping cacti and would like to get some mammillaria and rebutia but I need to do some reading to see how they do with the heat and how much direct light they’ll get on my balcony.
Cacti are such beautiful and amazing plants that I can’t get enough of. I could look at my plants all day. I will be a cactus plant parent hahaha. Hands down.
Arizona is a good fit for me so far. I’m loving it here!
