The below list of plants are ones I really like the look of and would make my house or yard feel like an exotic vacation spot but for a few reasons won’t be putting them on my wish list any time soon.
Sago Palm
Elephant’s foot tree
Jungle cacti – Epiphyllum, Lepismium, Rhipsalis to name a few
Euphorbia Bupleurifolia
Aeonium trees
Licuala palms
For starters, some of these do better outside then in the house – or at the very least will eventually out grow the house. At this time in my life, I currently live in a state that gets snow between November-April, so putting a sago palm or elephant’s foot tree out in the yard is not doable as far as I can tell, ahaha. I already have a yucca and a dracaena albeit a small one, it doesn’t make sense to get a couple more trees that I’ll eventually have to chop or get rid of because they outgrow my ceiling limitations.
I even think the euphorbia bupleurifolia would do better outside but it’s not a fast grower so it could stay indoors for a long time if the conditions were right. Such a fun plant though!
The aeonium family is probably one of my favorite succulent other than cacti and while I have a couple right now under my grow lights, I absolutely love how big they get outdoors – especially the zwartkop or Mardi Gras varieties. Oh my word what gorgeous plants. I don’t think I’ve seen an aeonium that I didn’t go gaga over!
The licuala palms are so beautiful and every time I see a photo of one of them I want to get one so bad, but I hear palms can be tricky and this isn’t a small plant to shove in a corner. This is a statement piece, baby! So maybe later in life I’ll get one, ahaha.
Now the ones that I always go back too but won’t buy because of my love/hate relationship with them is the tropical cacti. They are so interesting and exotic but I can’t get passed how messy they look but I love that look on them. I still can’t bring myself to get one because of how messy they can look. Does this make any sense?
Every time Unplanned Planthood shows a tropical cactus I go nuts again about them, but shelf the idea once more when I see how messy they look from googling them all.
Is there another person out there that is like me with this? It just boggles my mind how this is such a crutch for me, ahaha.
Anyways, I guess I’ve rambled enough, but these are some plants I enjoy and generally love but don’t see myself getting any time soon, ahaha. In the mean time I’ll just admire photos people post of theirs.
