I did it. I ordered online during the winter season.
I’ve only ordered online during the warm months or bought things at my local grocery store – I’m not going into nurseries because why put that temptation in front of me, ahaha – but this is my first time ordering online during the cold months and it’s exciting to say it went well for me. I don’t plan to order during the colder months all the time but when I really want that out of reach plant I wanted to know what to expect.
I ordered a scindapsus pictus exotica and a trellis on Etsy from two different businesses. I didn’t want a large pot of exotica as I didn’t know how it would work trying to get it to stick to the trellis. I knew getting a smaller pot would mean I would have to prop later to get a fuller look with the trellis, but I’m okay with doing that.
Was it scary? It wasn’t until it shipped and then I was nervous about it being delayed or lost even though it was shipping from a business in the same state, ahaha.
Did I check the tracking every five minutes? You betcha.
I paid for the heat pack with the place I ordered from and I didn’t pay for the expedited shipping as it was the same dates (looking back it was probably guaranteed delivery) but like $15 more, so I just kept my fingers crossed.
It arrived this morning and looks fabulous! The photos I snapped were ten minutes after I took it out of the box and I love it. The silver color is so gorgeous. It even has a baby leave trying to come out. I hope the shipping experience doesn’t mess with it. I can’t wait to see how it grows on the trellis.
This is my first scindapsus and I can already see myself getting other varieties which is good because I did have a couple on my very future wish list that I was iffy on but now it’s almost a guarantee I’ll get those, ahaha.
I’m still confused on how the plant needs to be positioned in order to take to the trellis. Do I put the trellis in the middle of the plant where the growth is coming from or just move the plant to the trellis. I don’t know but I guess I’ll be going to google to see what people did.
But as a down side to things, a few days after I placed the order I found mealybugs on my succulents and panicked which resulted in a drowned succulent sadly but the rest seem to be doing okay now. Fingers crossed I don’t see another mealybug tomorrow so they can go back under the grow light. So I am trying to be extra careful with quarantining everybody.
Seeing the scindapsus arrive in such good conditions lifted my spirit and I thoroughly checked for pests, ahaha. I’m excited to see how this scindapsus does in my care.
