Earlier this year I went gung-ho on houseplant related YouTubers, bloggers, subreddits, etc – you name it I was subscribed somehow.
I would watch or read every new content that came out almost immediately. It went on for months and honestly learned a lot while surprisingly keeping my impulse buying to a minimal.
Eventually I did have to stop watching nursery tours, plant shopping, and plant haul videos because I wanted to buy a new plant afterwards. Probably helped my impulse buying really.
I just slowly weened myself from watching videos or constantly checking plant forums and subreddits and now just check out some of my favorite plant folks here and there.
I’m realizing plants are a hobby of mine but it’s definitely moved from being number one to just enjoyment level. I have my wish list and list of plants I plan on getting rid of next year but I’m seriously not in a rush for anything new or to remove a plant from my collection.
To be frank, I haven’t even opened any of my phone notes for plants in over a month and that’s okay. My wallet thanks me for sure, ahaha. The thing I always got myself into trouble is the thinking I have to find my passion and have to stick to that one passion but in reality I am always growing and changing so my passions will change as well. As long as I’m learning it’s okay to have short lived hobbies or passions.
I know I will have plants for quite a while but it’s not my personality or identity. It’s just an enjoyable, relatively easy hobby that I am currently in. Plus the amount of pictures I have of my plants is insane just goes to show I still love and happily surprised by my houseplants almost every day. My favorite plant is my peace lily who hasn’t given me blooms in the last couple months, but as I write this I saw a lighter green bump on a stalk and couldn’t believe it – the girl is gonna bloom again! (See below for photo of bloom bump). That girl is my pride and joy. If I had to move internationally I would pay thousands to get her there……I’m not joking, ahaha.
So yes houseplants are still my thing….
